Even though he’s retired from the skating rink, Jarret Reid continues to make use of his talent by instructing others. His experience and success as an ice hockey player made it easy to teach and lead others. Jarret now spends most of his time helping young talents achieve their potential, and the results speak for themselves.
One of the beneficiaries of Jarret Reid’s exceptional ice skating instructional classes is Lauren Wildfang, a member of Team Canada Women’s U18 2014 gold medal winning team. For Lauren, much of her success has come from the different skating techniques Coach Jarret has incorporated in her training. Over the years, Lauren has come to appreciate how Jarret designs his programs to ensure every athlete grows in skating ability and puck handling skills.
In his prime, Jarret Reid was immensely talented. He was a first round draft pick (4th overall) for the Sault Greyhounds of the OHL in 1990. In his first year, he was the leading rookie scorer and helped his team win the OHL championship, thanks in part to Jarret’s leadership. That he understands what it takes to become the best is not lost on Jarret, as he now strives to help young athletes achieve their goals.
As part of Ontario’s Wave hockey program, Jarret Reid’s job as coach is to help make the game easier for younger players. Like Lauren, many of these players seek guidance and advice on how to improve their techniques, and they have found a worthy teacher in Coach Jarret.
